Bagua is a unique Chinese martial art and Qigong (energetic health practice) system. Based on the transformation of energy through circle-walking, Bagua can be developed into anything from a profound meditative alchemical practice to a powerful fighting style. With deep roots in the ancient Chinese study of the Yijing (I Ching), Bagua is a rare and precious treasure.
The Yijing is one of the most famous and highly respected texts from classic China. Perhaps somewhat analogous to the study of the Tarot in the West, it is most well known as a predictive tool, a way to ask what energetic patterns are developing in one's life or in the wider world. With many layers of meaning to explore, it can also serve as a comprehensive text for understanding how to create harmonious relations between people, how to grow through the changes of one's life, and how to develop the energies for internal alchemical practice.
This class will focus on providing a gentle introduction to both the Yijing and the physical practice of Bagua. All students will learn the basic practices and theory well enough to continue on their own, and we will lay a foundation for deeper study for anyone who wants to go further. The flavor will be exploratory rather than dogmatic.
Bagua and the Yijing are fascinating and fun practices. Students should come ready to learn new ways of moving their bodies and seeing the world. Each class will be 1.5 - 2 hours long, with 30 minutes of Bagua, 30 minutes of Yijing lecture and discussion, 30 minutes of Bagua, and an optional 30 minutes of individual practice and Q&A.
Some Copies of Deng Ming-Dao's "The Living I Ching" will be available to use at class, if you want to go deeper please order a copy to have.
This course is dependent on a minimum number of registrations, and will be scheduled or fully refunded if we dont reach this minimum.
